“I Love Books” Valentine’s Day Storytime

We’re moving our normal story time to Valentine’s Day! 

We’re excited to have special guest reader:  Dr. Justin Jennings, Muskegon School Superintendent,

who will share with us his favorite books and love of reading.  Don’t forget to stay for a special craft!

 

Girls Who Code

Monday evenings: 5:30 – 6:30 PM

February 5, 12, & 26

Hackley Public Library is excited to launch a coding club just for girls! 

We are an official host site for the international Girls Who Code organization. 

The club is open to students grade 6 and up. 

In the club, girls will master the basics of coding like loops, variables, functions, and conditionals to name a few. 

We will meet every Monday evening through the end of May.

Black History Calendar Contest

January 16 – February 7

HPL’s annual calendar uses student artwork to celebrate African American achievements. 

Artists in grades 3 – 12 are invited to submit drawings. 

To enter, draw a picture from African American history and ask a trivia question about it. 

The best pictures and questions will be published in a free calendar, which will be available throughout Muskegon.

Each page in the calendar will feature a question (maybe yours!) about a famous person or event. 

Answers will be printed on the back.  Don’t forget to pick up an entry form! 

All submissions are due by Wednesday, February 7. 

We’ll announce the winners at our Awards Ceremony on February 24.

 

Black History Coloring Contest

January 16 – February 7

Show off your best coloring skills! 

Young artists in grades Pre-K – 2 can take home an entry form or color one at the library. 

Fill out your name and age, then turn in your coloring page by Wednesday, February 7. 

We’ll select the best ones for our Awards Ceremony on February 24.

So you think you know your Black History? 

Form a team and show it to win great prizes.

The most fun you can have with history is back with WUVS 103.7 The Beat leading the way. 

Kids compete right alongside adults in this game of history and knowledge.   

Team registration is required.

 

3rd Annual Sweet Soul Food Contest, Adults and Kids Divisions

2:00 PM Saturday, February 10

Do you know grandma’s secret recipes?  Are they the best you ever had? 

Then hurry and enter the Hackley Public Library’s Black History Dessert Contest

where adults and children can enter for a chance to win extraordinary prizes. 

Get out your recipe files!  REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED – and please bring enough to share.

Then stay to listen to “In the Tradition”, a great jazz band from Detroit performing for the whole family.
