White Lake Winter Lecture Series
The Lecture Series begins Tuesday, January 30 at 7 PM at the Book Nook & Java Shop (8744 Ferry St., Montague). Blue Lake Radio host, Foley Schuler, will speak on “From Bugs Bunny to Stanley Kubrick - Classical Music Goes to the Movies”
Mr. Schuler will share his love of both classical music and cinema in this examination of the nexus of the two art forms in the work of several master film directors - in whose hands certain works from the classical music repertoire become much more than mere accompaniment to the images, but are organic to the ultimate vision itself. Through a selection of iconic and unforgettable scenes, we’ll see how these works have been essential in advancing the narrative, creating dramatic effect--at times almost acting another character--and, in general, contributing to an aesthetic synergy in which, true to the art of cinema itself, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
Continuing on February 27, in honor of Black History Month, Antione Hackney will present a lecture on “The History of the Blues”.
For the ending presentation on March 27, Chef Jill Hansen will speak on “The Art of Taste”.
January and February’s 7 PM presentations will take place at the Book Nook & Java Shop, 8744 Ferry St. in Montague. The presentation in March will be at 7 PM at Cichetti Culinary Studio, 702 Holton Rd., North Muskegon. Admission is $5 at the door. Everyone is welcomed!
