Don’t miss your chance to vote on new art that will be created in our community! Look below for press release details on the Muskegon Rails Project:
The Muskegon City Public Art Initiative, in collaboration with city leaders of Muskegon, Norton Shores and Muskegon Heights, requested proposals from artists to create four original, contemporary, inclusive, and celebratory murals to be painted directly on the railroad bridge over Seaway Drive between Laketon Avenue and Hackley Avenue within the City of Muskegon, and on the bridge located between Sherman Avenue and Broadway within the governmental entities of Norton Shores and Muskegon Heights.
Artists were invited to bring concepts that celebrate our community, its diversity and resiliency, our natural resources and our beautiful surroundings. Designs could be abstract, conceptual, and/or feature people. Sixteen artists submitted designs; four artists will be chosen to paint four different murals on the two bridges in the spring of 2021.
The public is invited to see the six different murals being considered for this project, of which four will be selected, and to vote for a People’s Choice Award. The designs for the bridges will be on display for the next few weeks at three of our community libraries during different times (Muskegon Heights Branch – MADL , Hackley Public Library, and Norton Shores Branch – MADL).
